What is Bentley University? A business school. Yes. A force that changes the world? Definitely. However, Bentley isn’t what it is because of its classes, its values, or even what it represents. Its students define Bentley, and one student in particular stands out: Aldo Hernandez.
Originally from Texas, Aldo came to Bentley as a freshman without ever setting foot on campus. Amidst COVID restrictions, he relied on a gut feeling and a trusted advisor’s recommendation. Now, as a senior, Aldo’s love for Bentley has only grown.
Aldo’s advice to his freshman self and anyone feeling unsure is simple: stay curious. Don’t close yourself off to new opportunities. Growth doesn’t just happen academically or professionally, it happens in every corner of life when you remain open to new things.
Now, as a senior, Aldo holds two of the most demanding leadership roles on campus: President of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional fraternity, and Senior Class President. Many in his shoes as a senior shy away from such a responsibility, but Aldo embraces it. When the workload becomes overwhelming, he reminds himself of why he chose to lead: to serve others and to uplift the organizations he believes in.
As Senior Class President, Aldo is determined to make sure his classmates are celebrated for the hard work, commitment, and resilience they’ve shown throughout their time at Bentley. He says, “I want the seniors to be rewarded for the blood, sweat, and tears that they have put into the last three years.” Whether it’s jobs, athletics, or organizational involvement, he wants every senior to feel seen and appreciated.
His journey with Delta Sigma Pi holds a special place in his heart. It was the first organization to welcome him and the first one he truly called home. From the moment he joined, Aldo knew he wanted to leave the fraternity better than he found it. And he has. The brothers of DSP are proud of the growth and strength of the chapter under his leadership.
DSP Senior Vice President Maid Hughes, who works closely with Aldo, shares: “Working with Aldo has been great. He always puts in so much effort in everything he does, and the chapter has grown so much under his leadership. It’s obvious how much he loves DSP and the people in it.”
But Aldo’s involvement doesn’t end there. He’s also been an Orientation Leader, a member of the Falcon Society, Bentley Gaming Society, and a campus tour guide. His fingerprints are all over Bentley’s student life.
With less than a month left until graduation, Aldo is reflecting on the memories that made Bentley home. One of his fondest and most unique experiences? Conversations with “Auntie” at Harry’s. While that’s not her real name, it’s what Aldo lovingly calls her. He looks up to her as one of his aunts. He thinks that everyone should at least try to have a meaningful conversation with her.
Of course, no interview would be complete without Aldo’s take on academics. As a marketing major, his favorite classes were any sales course taught by Professor Pouliopoulos. “They flew by, and I learned so much,” he says. One of his most challenging but rewarding courses was Affective Selling with Professor Young. He also highly recommends any classes with Professor Weisman, who never fails to make class engaging and memorable.
As Aldo looks ahead to the future, he does so with excitement and gratitude. He knows he’s one of the lucky ones who can truly say: Bentley became home.
