Join The Vanguard

We are always looking for writers, photographers, and submissions from Bentley students. Below are details to submit to the Vanguard.

NEEDED: Section Editors – SPORTS, ARTS & CULTURE, & OPINION; Digital Media Editor

Section editors:

• Oversee the review and editing of content within their section, work with writers and others (e.g., photographers) to ensure accurate and engaging content, and meet the goals of distribution for the website and print publication.
• Review submitted stories and work directly with writers to provide constructive feedback, including updating grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, and structure.
• Identify relevant stories and events at Bentley applicable within their section.
• Write and publish at least two articles per semester and recruit contributors to write and submit stories under their section.
• Assign work to contributors based on activities and events across Bentley University and ensure content is published according to the publication schedule.
• Attend professional development opportunities, promotional events, and staff meetings.

Digital Media Editor – Manages all aspects of the Vanguard’s digital presence, including the website and social media. Tasks include, but are not limited to, promoting content across social media platforms, building content for social media platforms, engaging with audiences on all digital platforms, and writing/publishing, at a minimum, two articles relevant to the Bentley community in support of the Vanguard each semester. Lastly, the editor is expected to attend professional development opportunities, promotional events, and staff meetings.

Interested parties for the section editors/editorial board (e.g., Arts & Culture Editor) should email [email protected] with their interest in a specific position, qualifications, and a brief narrative explaining interest. Please include the position you are interested in within the email subject line. Those interested in joining the Vanguard must be current undergraduate students at Bentley University.

Submissions: Op-Eds, Letters to the Editor, Event Notifications, & Photos

Submissions: The Vanguard welcomes stories (articles) from the Bentley University community! We are looking for contributors and stories within the categories: News, Features, Sports, Arts & Culture, and Opinion. If you are uncertain of the category, feel free to email us for assistance. Stories should be roughly 400-650 words, include an original photo, the bio of the contributor, and may be edited before publication. Please note that upon publication, either online or in print, the submission becomes the property of the Vanguard. Email submissions with all required materials to [email protected] – and include “Submission” in the subject line.  The Section Editor (e.g., Sports Editor) will contact you with any questions, edits, and to update you on the progress of your submission.

Op-eds: The Vanguard welcomes opinion-related submissions from individuals affiliated with Bentley University. They should clearly state an opinion and may not have been previously published in the Vanguard. Pieces should be roughly 400-650 words, include an original photo, the bio of the contributor, and may be edited before publication. Please note that upon publication, either online or in print, the submission becomes the property of the Vanguard. Email submissions with all required materials to [email protected] – and include “Op-Ed” in the subject line.

Letters to the editor: A letter to the editor should be no longer than 350 words and must refer to an article from the Vanguard. Letters may be edited and shortened for space constraints. Please note that upon publication, either online or in print, the letter becomes property of the Vanguard. Submit letters to [email protected] – and include “LOE” in the subject line.

Event Notifications: We welcome press releases and short submissions for upcoming on-campus events. Events hosted by student organizations, Greek life, or any entity at Bentley University are welcome. Event notifications should be no longer than 100 words and may be edited and shortened for space constraints. Submit event notifications to [email protected] – and include “Event” in the subject line.

Photos: The Vanguard welcomes original photography, including photos from student events, organizational meetings, and fun photos around campus. Please submit photos as JPEG or PNG files and include a brief caption that details the event, individuals featured (if applicable), and the name of the photographer. Submissions may be produced online, in print, or on social media. Submit photos to [email protected] – and include “Photo” in the subject line
