The Bentley Falcons women’s basketball team is 18-3 entering the home stretch of conference play.
Since losing four starters from last season, gaining seven new players and having to find that chemistry again, this team has faced challenge afterchallenge and have been able to bounce back even stronger.
If you haven’t been following, why haven’t you? Let’s take a look back on the amazing season they’ve had so far.
The season opened against Mercy University and Bentley unfortunately lost coming just short with a score of 64-61, but got right back on their feet andblasted forward to a 6 game winning streak. Star Guard and Junior, Niya Morgen, shared that the game before winter break against rivals Holy FamilyUniversity, was a huge turning point for the girls.
“Up to that point, we were kind of inconsistent with our playing. We had that game, and we killed it. It was probably one of our best games all year” she said.
Coming back from winter break, the team battled hard against Daemen University but came up short ultimately losing 75-62.
Morgen noted how the team wanted to keep the ball rolling and the energy high after the last win, but the break had unfortunately interrupted their flow. But the girls were able to quickly shake off that unusual loss, unleashing their talents and gaining 8 wins in a row.
The Falcons recently played against Southern Connecticut State University had their win streak snapped with an ending score of 57-39. Morgen describedthe difficulty of the team’s conference and league.
“Any team can beat any other team on any given day” she said. Although their division brings challenges, this small setback won’t stop these girls fromgiving it their all on the court.
When talking about the women’s basketball team and its players we, of course, have to mention the coaching staff as well. Head coach, Caroline “CoachC” White and her experienced coaching staff have been going above and beyond to not only shape incredible players, but incredible women.
Parent to Niya Morgen, Terri Morgen, expresses how much Coach C has been a positive influence on her daughter and the rest of the team.
“They really believe in these girls and they help them and they mentor them; I can see it in my own child. She’s just getting much more secure because of what the coaching staff is able to do for them” she said.
Now that you’re all caught up on the season, put on some Bentley merch and come to the next home game to watch the team in action on February 24th against Southern New Hampshire University at the Dana Center.
